Album review: Long Player Late Bloomer

Ron Sexsmith

From: Toronto, Canada

Genre: Adult folk pop

FTWL: Rufus Wainwright, CBC Radio two, KD Lang, Jann Arden, Michael Buble

Canadian adult pop darling, this man is loved by all on the CBC. Great for morning shows, or introducing your parents to better Canadian music like anyone in the Wainwright family. Sexsmith brings the signature sultry voice, the smooth easy listening music and the sunny summer guitar licks. Combined with a wicked ability to write catchy and insightful songs, it is easy to understand his popularity. This album isn’t as strong as previous ones, and I don’t particularity dig the smooth-enough-to-slide-down-with-a-garbage-bag production value but the song writing is still strong. This album also shakes away some of the folky attitude he has

Still, an album this smooth and produced has me wondering what devious thoughts he is harboring behind those puppy dog eyes and baby faced cheeks.
